| Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge |
Announcement April 27: U.S. Fish &
Wildlife Service Will Study Potential National Wildlife
Refuge Along Wisconsin and Illinois Border.
Press Release USFWS has
established a Website
HERE to provide citizens
with information on the proposed refuge and the process of
studying the refuge.
Please visit the Friends of Hackmatack National Wildlife
Refuge Website
HERE and sign the petition in support
of establishing Hackmatack. Such a refuge would promote
economic benefits to the citizens of the region, protect
unique wildlife habitats, expand recreational opportunities,
and protect our waterways and drinking water.

| Leave No Child Inside - This Summer |
Leave
No Child Inside is a Chicago Wilderness initiative that
focuses on unstructured play outside. Unstructured play is
important for wholesome, balanced development of cognitive,
emotional, social, and physical aptitude. Research has
demonstrated that outdoor play helps children manage stress
and become resilient. Natural spaces stimulate children's
limitless imaginations and foster creativity. Children who
connect with nature may be more inventive and better
problem-solvers due to the hands-on learning that the
outdoors provide.
If your organization is hosting an outdoor activity in June,
sign up to become a Leave No Child Inside partner. The
Department of Natural Resources and Chicago Wilderness will
help promote and market Leave No Child Inside events and
partnering organizations will help promote other events in
their area.
To sign up as a partner, please fill out the form
HERE and return it to
Olivia.Dorothy@illinois.gov. Sign up now so that no child
is left inside this summer! If you have questions contact
Olivia Dorothy, Department of Natural Resources, at
217-557-1214 or Emilian Geczi, Chicago Wilderness, at
773-631-1790 x18. |

| FREP Website News |
We are continuing to add to the completely NEW FREP Website -
HERE, and welcome the assistance of
FREP members and friends to help build the
information, resources, and links. Send your
suggested information to Becky Hoag at
foxriverinfo@comcast.net
Some areas we'd really appreciate your help
(links to the pages in bold):
FREP Member Profiles - dues-paying FREP
members are welcome to submit a profile for these pages. Email a brief description, contact information, and a logo.
FREP News & Activities - We are happy to
share news of other activities and programs in the Watershed on
this page, and include them in our monthly Downstream.
Subwatersheds - much of the information on
the old site was outdated. One of FREP's goals is to promote
activity and stewardship within the subwatersheds of the Fox.
The main subwatersheds are listed on this page, with currently
available information. There are other small subwatershed that
may not be even listed here. Please contact us if you have
information to share or interest in a particular subwatershed.
Green Resources - links currently on this
page are just a start. There are boundless other resources we
could share. Please email us your favorite "green" links. |
Rain Garden Initiative - Thanks to a grant from the
Kane County Riverboat Grant Program, FREP has been able to
establish the Kane County Rain Garden Initiative. Because rain
gardens benefit the entire watershed, the resources on these
pages are for all.
Rain Garden Registry - We are especially
eager to build a database of rain gardens that exist, are being
built, or are planned for in the Fox watershed. Visit the page
link and complete and return the form to include your rain
garden in this registry. |
